When I was a young college student, I knew I wanted to create my own business one day. I would read a ton of business books at Barnes and Nobles and read through business forums online to gain useful insights into building my own business.
I would spend hours upon hours scouring through the forums and participating in group discussions. One of the forums I joined, had a ton of users hyping up this one skill that all entrepreneurs must learn.
What is that?
Sales copywriting is simply, sales writing or selling done through written words. Do you know those sales descriptions on product pages? Or print or digital advertisements that try to get you to order products?
It is like that. The written words used to sell or move products or services.
At the time, I could not even imagine that writing would be the most valuable business skill to learn for entrepreneurs. I was curious as to why this was the most heralded skill to learn by this business community…
I frantically skimmed through the forums to find out. After some research, I had found the answer.
The community claimed that learning this copywriting skill would help them develop an entrepreneurial mindset to start a business…
They stated that learning how to sell through written words will help someone build a keen awareness of recognizing and looking for solutions to other people’s pains.
Woah, why is that so important? Let me explain.
Again, learning sales copywriting helps you shift your mindset because it teaches you how to locate and solve other people’s problems. You see, when problems are our own, they appear to be so much worse. We typically go through our days entirely focused on ourselves and seeing only our own problems.
Sales copywriting teaches you to find and help other people solve their problems. Essentially, at its core, that is all what business is. Solving other people’s problems. What problem are other people facing in their lives and how can you help them solve it?
What’s going on with me?? My back hurts so much… and I can’t lie down to fall asleep. Oh my goodness gracious! But I’m so tired, I need to lie down.
In business, a product or service would be created to solve the problem above. Here is the pain, what product or service can I use to fix it?
The best sales copywriters really master the mindset of persuasion. Learning how to persuade a complete stranger with just your written words is a difficult task. Nobody likes to be blatantly sold to. Have you ever been harassed by a high-pressure salesman before? It feels uncomfortable as it seems disingenuous and fake.
In order to persuade or sell through written words, one would have to learn how to genuinely help a complete stranger solve their problems. Whether it be their weight loss problems, their marriage issues or financial troubles, copywriting teaches you to locate business opportunities or to see needs/ problems to solve.
Not only does learning copywriting give you a sharp entrepreneurial mindset, but it also gives you an amazing important business skill…. Copywriting will teach you the ability to grab a strangers attention and engage with them enough to try a product or service. Masterful copywriters who can get people to open up their wallets and give them money for a product or service is a priceless skill.
There you have it. The one skill to learn to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
